Truths about Human Nature
| Life Is Suffering | Though Finny enjoys much of his life, he spends a great deal trudging through hardships connected to his friend. Not only was it his friend that made him fall, ruining his athletic career forever, but he was also the reason that he stormed off breaking his leg the second time, and eventually killing him. Leper is what you could call the runt of the pack. Everybody makes fun of him and nobody really pays attention. After enlisting in something he likes to do he eventually goes insane. Not to help that he cannot stay stable emotionally or physically. |
| Humans cannot deny dares | When Finny and Gene Start the Super Suicide Society, Gene originally sees the danger and watches as his friends back down, but his not being able to let down his friend led to the acceptance of the very suicidal dive. Finny also dared gene to accompany him when they ditched school and slept at the beach. Of course Gene does not deny, for who can, and not be shamed by their friends? |
| Guilt | Gene usually tries to abide by the rules but surrounded by people like Finny, there is no possible way to follow them to the letter. After the deed is done, we often see Gene grieving over his grievances and planning the outcome whilst plotting to not remake the decision. Though Finny is no the best influence. In opposition, Finny almost makes it a point to break every ruler he knows. He simply is apathetic to every restriction openly defying them even in the midst of authorities. He believes they have no power when the power comes from the people. |
